WiFi Repeaters

A WiFi repeater captures the existing WiFi signal from your router and retransmits it over a greater distance, thus creating an additional coverage area. It acts as a relay to extend the range of your wireless network.

To choose the right repeater, consider the size of your home, the speed of your current internet connection, and your router's WiFi standard (e.g., WiFi 5 (802.11ac) or WiFi 6 (802.11ax)). Ensure the repeater is compatible with your router for optimal performance.

Place your repeater halfway between your router and the area where the signal is weak. It should be close enough to the router to pick up a good signal, but also close enough to the area to be covered to retransmit it effectively.

A WiFi repeater does not create new bandwidth; it extends the range of the existing signal. While it can improve stability and connectivity in remote areas, the maximum speed will be limited by that of your main router and the quality of the signal received by the repeater.

Common WiFi standards are 802.11n (WiFi 4), 802.11ac (WiFi 5), and 802.11ax (WiFi 6). For better performance, choose a repeater that supports the same standard or a higher standard than your current router. For example, a WiFi 6 repeater is ideal if your router is also WiFi 6.
